Winter Walk Day-Step Up Alberta!

The trails and the outdoor gym are open all year round

What is an Outdoor Gym?

An outdoor gym is very similar to an indoor gym--from cross trainers to pec decks. Some of the key differences are the equipment is found outdoors so it is weatherproof and colorful. It does not use weights for resistance, but rather ones own body weight. the devices are inviting and look more like friendly playgrounds than intimidating fitness equipment. The outdoor gym provides a great opportunity for all community members to enjoy fitness and healthy active living.

Our outdoor gym stations are located all along the walking trail and are for you to use at your convenience as you aspire to become fit and active in our community. There are also stations located at our Splash Park. TrailPoster

Recreation Vision

The health benefits of recreation and active living to our residents and community become an important component in the quality of life to our residents. Recreation activities provide opportunities to build social skills and cultivate self-sufficiency and leadership abilities as well as build a sense of place and community pride. The benefits of recreation affect our physical and emotional well being as we become more active we rely less on medical and social services.

Active Community Programs- Morinville is one of 176 communities that are actively participating in the Choosewell Project. The initiatives with this project are: Sobey's 21 Days to Healthy Eating, Recreation programs targeted for family participation, Health & Wellness programs targeting food and choices and recreation programs that target from Early Childhood to Senior in keeping everyone in our community active.

Open Space Programs- in recreation our open spaces is defined as our parks, trails, and playgrounds. Programs are developed to utilize these spaces and encouraging the natural environment as opportunities to be active within our community.
