Land Use Bylaw

The Land Use Bylaw is a document which regulates the use and development of land and buildings. It divides the Town into land use districts, and prescribes the land use and development regulations for each district.

It also establishes methods for processing, deciding upon and issuing development permits.

Please note that all documents posted on the website are for information purposes only and may be periodically updated. These documents do not necessarily reflect the legal documents and cannot be used as an official interpretation of the official bylaws, regulations and statutory plans in effect.

LUB Review Project

The Planning and Development Department would like to thank everyone who participated in the LUB Review Project!

The previous Land Use Bylaw (LUB) was adopted in 2003, and was in need of a comprehensive review & update to bring it into alignment with the policy direction of Morinville’s Municipal Sustainability Plan (MSP) and Municipal Development Plan (MDP).

Council gave First Reading to Bylaw 3/2012, a bylaw to adopt the updated LUB, on March 13, 2012.  A Public Hearing was held April 10, 2012. Council gave Second and Third Readings to Bylaw 3/2012 on April 10, 2012, bringing it into law upon passing.

Discussion Papers

The following discussion papers identified a broad scope of topic areas being considered as part of the LUB review and update.  The purpose of these discussions is to outline gaps within existing regulations and improve key issues with provisions of the current land use bylaw; as identified in part by Council, Municipal Planning Commission, administration, developers and residents.  Draft regulations are proposed within these documents, which were intended to either add to or replace provisions found in the previous land use bylaw, and therefore the official land use bylaw should be consulted when reviewing these documents.  (Please note that in-text references to other sections in the draft regulations are either intentionally left blank, refer to sections of the previous land use bylaw, or sections contained within the draft regulations.)
