COVID-19 Resources

The Town of Morinville is closely following the direction of Alberta Health Services, the Government of Alberta, as well as Health Canada on preparedness planning. We will be updating this page as required.

Below please find links to credible resources to access the most current information. We encourage you to visit these sites often and follow the suggestions in keeping yourself and your family healthy.

Update - March 2022

Alberta entered Step 2 on March 1. The following changes came into effect at that time:

  • Any remaining school requirements removed (for example: Kindergarten to grade 6 cohorting).
  • Youth screening activities for entertainment and sport activities removed.
  • Capacity on all large venues and entertainment venues lifted.
  • Restrictions lifted on interactive activities, table limits, liquor sales and closing times for bars, restaurants and other food serving businesses.
  • Indoor and outdoor social gathering limits lifted, including for all wedding and funeral events.
  • Mandatory work-from-home requirements lifted.
  • Provincial mask mandate lifted except:
    • on municipal and intra-provincial public transit for Albertans 13 and older
    • at AHS-operated and contracted facilities, and all continuing care settings
Update - February 2022

The Government of Alberta announced a gradual lifting of public health measures as the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. Beginning at 11:59 p.m. February 8, Alberta has moved to step one of a three-step approach.

Step one will include the end of the Restriction Exemption Program, along with most associated restrictions. The Restriction Exemption Program (REP) will be removed effective today at both the Morinville Leisure Centre and Morinville Community Cultural Centre, with the following requirements still in place:

  • Adult and youth sport, fitness and performance activities:
    • Indoor group classes, training, and competitions are permitted, but participants are required to:
      • screen for symptoms
  • Masking is mandatory in all indoor public spaces, workplaces, and places of worship. However, mandatory masking requirements removed for:
    • children 12 and under in all settings as of February 14
    • children and youth in schools for any age as of February 14
  • In the specific settings where a mask is required, anyone unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition will require a medical exception letter from an authorized health professional
  • Food and drink consumption in seated audience settings or during intermissions can resume.

Update - December 2021

As of September 15, 2021, the Morinville Community Cultural Centre and Morinville Leisure Centre have implemented the Restriction Exemption Program. Those 12 years and 10 weeks of age and older are required to provide one of the following: proof of vaccination with QR code, documentation of a medical exemption or proof of a privately paid negative
COVID-19 rapid test result taken within 72 hours of service. Valid personal ID is required for guests who are 18 years of age and older.

Albertans turning 12 years and 10 weeks and older can get their vaccine record with QR code at: alberta.ca/covidrecords

Update - November 2021

Effective November 15, 2021 the Alberta vaccine record with QR CODE will be the ONLY valid Alberta proof of vaccination accepted by the Morinville Leisure Centre and Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Valid personal ID is required for guests who are 18 years of age and older.

Vaccine records from First Nations, military, other provinces, and international travellers will continue to be accepted. The record must display the name, type of vaccine and date of administration.

When a valid QR code is scanned, a green check mark will verify proof of vaccination. It will also display a person’s name and date of birth, which we will check against an ID.

If you do not have online access to download your vaccine record with a QR Code, visit a participating library or registry agent to print your record at no cost or call 811 to have your record mailed to you.

Albertans turning 12 and older can get their vaccine record with QR code at: alberta.ca/covidrecords

As a participant in the Restriction Exemption Program, we continue to follow the direction and guidelines set out by AHS. The updated restrictions below reflect the clarifications that have been shared with municipalities. You can read the detailed heath order at: https://bit.ly/3GJ9LvX

Effective today, November 1. The following changes have been made to the Restriction Exemption Program:

• Drop-in/spontaneous activities are required to provide proof of vaccine for facilities that have implemented the Restriction Exemption Program.

• Team sports (registered hockey/soccer etc.) are not required to show proof of vaccine but if patrons ages 12 to 17 want to use other amenities within the complex they are required to show proof of vaccine.

Update - September 2021

Following Provincial Health Orders announced September 15, 2021, the Town of Morinville will be adjusting access to Town facilities.

Morinville will implement the Restriction Exemption Program to enter the Morinville Leisure Centre and Morinville Community Cultural Centre beginning September 20. The restriction program will not apply to the Town Office.  Further details on how this program will be implemented will be determined based on the provincial public health orders, including the Restriction Exemption Program details once they are made public. More information will be shared through Morinville.ca and via the Town’s social media channels.

To enter municipal facilities participating in the Restriction Exemption Program, people ages 12 and older must provide proof of their COVID vaccination, documentation of a medical exemption or a privately obtained COVID test showing a negative result in the last 72 hours.

Beginning September 20 and until October 25, 2021, proof of a single dose is considered acceptable as long as the dose was given more than 2 weeks before the time of entry to a program or facility. After October 25, proof of double vaccination is required and as long as it was two weeks prior to entry, you will be admitted.

“Based on our review, we believe by implementing the Restriction Exemption Program at the Morinville Leisure Centre and the Morinville Community Cultural Centre we are best able to maintain our service levels with the least impact to our residents,” said acting CAO Michelle Hay. “Given the state of Public Health Emergency, this allows us to deliver the most programming in the safest way possible.”

During the initial stages of this program, guests are encouraged to arrive at facilities a little earlier than normal. We ask for patience as patrons’ individual vaccination status or recent negative test results are reviewed.

Update - May 2021

Community garage and yard sales are not permitted until the public health orders are relaxed or cancelled. This decision was made for the following reasons:
  • Garage sales encourage mass gatherings and physical closeness
  • Safety of patrons, sanitizer use, and disinfecting protocols cannot be easily monitored
  • Garage sales deal with cash handling and provide an opportunity for surface disease transfer
  • Garage sale goers often go from sale to sale and community to community
  • Inside a garage may not allow for appropriate physical distancing
  • Garage sale items are mainly used, previously handled and don’t have exterior wrapping or protective coverings
Sales through sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji or e-Bay with online payment and curbside pickup are acceptable options.

Alberta's Relaunch Strategy

Yesterday, Premier Jason Kenney presented Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy. Put simply, the plan is the Province’s path to carefully and gradually lift the restrictions imposed on our economy, and our lives. Given our collective efforts of physical distancing, good hygiene practices and staying safe together, we are slowing the spread of COVID-19. As a result, the plan is intended to carefully move through stages of the relaunch strategy while ensuring we all continue to follow public health guidelines, all the while, shifting our focus from the fear and anxiety of the past few weeks and start looking to the future with hope and cautious confidence.
