Speak Before Council

Council encourages you to share your thoughts and ideas on issues in Morinville.

Have a question or concern?

We recommend you bring your questions or concerns to Administration before speaking to Council. In many cases, Administration can resolve issues quickly and easily. You can email us or call 780-939-4361.

Write to Council

Write a letter or email Mayor and Council.

Council correspondence is distributed electronically to all members of Council and a copy of the same correspondence, redacted in accordance with the FOIP Act, will be placed in a binder available at the front desk in Town Hall. 

Depending on the complexity of the issue, your question or concern will be dealt with either by Council, an appropriate Administrative department, or a Council Board/Committee. 

Please allow several weeks for a response. 

Speak to Council

You can speak at a Regular Council or Committee of the Whole meeting. Complete and email the Delegation/Public Presentation Request form to our Legislative Services.

  • The Legislative Officer will contact you to schedule a date and time for your presentation.
  • All presentation files (not web-hosted) must be provided to the Legislative Officer by email or memory stick 7 days before the meeting date.
  • You will have five minutes to speak to Council at the meeting.
  • Discussion will be limited to information contained in the presentation

Public Hearings

Public hearings allow community members to provide input on issues and decisions that may affect them or the community. These hearings are held in Council Chambers at the Morinville Civic Plaza (2nd floor, 10125 100 Avenue, Morinville, AB T8R 1L6), unless otherwised specified in the Public Hearing notice.

Guidelines for Participating in a Public Hearings

Public Hearings are legislated hearings designed to gather input from community members on proposed decisions, policies or bylaws. They often address topics like Land Use Bylaw Amendments and other planning and development matters.

  • All speakers are allocated five minutes to present.
  • During the hearing, the Chair will call upon individuals to speak either in favour of or in opposition to the proposed item.

Speaking In-Person 

If you intend to speak in person at the Public Hearing, you are encouraged to register in advance, but advanced registration is not required. Those who don't register in advance will need to add their name to Public Hearing sign-up sheet prior to the start of the meeting to ensure their name is called by the Chair of the meeting.

Speaking via videoconference

If you wish to participate via videoconference, you must register by the deadline listed on the Public Hearing Notice (24 hours preceding the Public Hearing) by contacting Legislative Services. This ensures you receive instructions to access the videoconference and understand how you can participate electronically (e.g., mute/unmute, use of cameras, etc.).

Address Council through Written Submission

If you do not want to speak during the meeting, but still want your voice to be heard, you can send in a written submission. Please be sure to include your name within your submission. Email submissions are due by the deadline listed on the Public Hearing Notice (24 hours preceding the Public Hearing) and must be sent to Legislative Services
