Morinville Joins National Movement to Win Canada’s
Most Active Community Title and $100,000
Morinville, Alta. – Morinville is once again taking part in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge this June — a national movement encouraging Canadians to get active in ways that move them. The challenge runs from June 1–30, with a top prize of $100,000.
In 2024, Morinville was recognized as a Top 50 finalist, placing 3rd in Alberta—an incredible achievement made possible by our community’s dedication to staying active. In 2025, we’re aiming even higher to earn the title of Canada’s Most Active Community, which will help enhance sport and recreation opportunities for everyone in Morinville.
“The beauty of this challenge is that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to being active,” says Laura McCarron, Acting Manager, Community Services. “Whether it’s walking your dog, gardening, dancing in your kitchen, or doing a family bike ride — it’s about doing what makes you feel good and brings you joy. Movement looks different for everyone, and that’s something we want to celebrate in Morinville.”
How to participate
- Individuals can take the pledge at participaction.com/individual-pledge, using their Morinville postal code
- Organizations, businesses and community groups can register as a group to help boost Morinville’s total active minutes and participants, and bring their teams together around a shared wellness goal. Group registration can be done at participaction.com/signup
Getting Active in Morinville this June
There are so many ways to get moving in Morinville this June, and they all count toward our ParticipACTION Community Challenge goals. Whether you’re taking a fitness class at the Morinville Leisure Centre, chasing your kids around the playground, or taking a stroll on one of Morinville’s paths, it’s all part of being active in a way that gets you out and participating in your community.
“Walking around the booths at Festival Days (June 14–16) is a great way to get moving — remember, physical activity isn’t just about sports. ParticipACTION encourages us to rethink what being active means. It’s about moving your body in ways that make you feel healthy and happy,” says McCarron.
How the prize money can be used
The money must support physical activity or sport opportunities in the community. For example:
- Capital builds (e.g., playgrounds, trails, renovations, etc.)
- New or existing programs serving inactive or underrepresented groups
- Acquiring equipment and supplies to enhance physical activity programs within the community
- Physical activity strategy development and implementation
