Drop-in Sports and Recreation

Open Court provides flexible access to available recreation space and equipment. Nets are not automatically set up during these times.

To request a volleyball, pickleball or badminton net, call 780-939-3450 before your visit to confirm whether the request can be accommodated.

Adult Shinny is available to participants aged 16 and older. Identification may be requested to confirm eligibility.

• Admission is included with an MLC membership or day admission.
• A visible wristband is required.
• Gloves and a CSA-approved helmet are mandatory.
• Additional protective equipment is strongly recommended.
• A maximum of 26 players and four goalies are permitted.
• Referees are not provided.
• Players must share ice time fairly.
• Play must stop when directed by staff.
• Players must remain off the ice and behind the glass while the Zamboni is operating.

Dangerous play, fighting, abusive language, obscene behaviour and horseplay are not permitted. Participants who do not follow the guidelines may be removed from the ice or asked to leave the facility.

Child and Youth Stick & Puck provides an opportunity to practise skating, shooting and puck-handling skills in an inclusive recreational environment.

• Children participating in family or parent-and-tot sessions must be supervised by a responsible adult aged 18 or older.

• Players must remain off the ice and behind the glass while the Zamboni is operating.

Public skating offers a welcoming opportunity for individuals and families to enjoy recreational time on the ice.

• Wristbands must remain visible.
• Children under eight must be supervised by a responsible family member aged 18 or older.
• Helmets are mandatory for participants under 18 and strongly recommended for adults. Bicycle helmets are not permitted.
• Skate in the same direction as other participants.
• Faster skaters should remain toward the outside, while slower skaters should use the inside.
• Skates must be worn on the ice.
• Formal coaching and organized lessons are not permitted during public skating.
• Skating aids must be commercially manufactured, in good condition and approved by staff.
• Rough play, wrestling and unsafe behaviour are not permitted.

Items Not Permitted During Public Skating

• Hockey or ringette sticks, pucks and rings
• Food and beverages, except plastic water bottles
• Toboggans, sleighs, wagons and strollers
• Infant car seats and baby carriers
• Blankets, stuffed animals and toys
• Homemade skating aids
• Shoes or boots
• Personal music players or headphones

Carrying an infant on the ice is not permitted, regardless of the safety equipment being worn.
