Truth and Reconciliation

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. 

The Town of Morinville's Leadership Team encourages all employees to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Please take some time to review the National Day for Truth Reconciliation, Indigenous culture and mental health learning opportunities and resources, found listed below.

Orange Shirt Day is also recognized on September 30 and all staff are encouraged to wear orange on this day. Orange Shirt Day was created to recognize the harm that the residential school system did to Indigenous children's sense of self-esteem and well being. • A series of online events during Truth and Reconciliation Week includes short videos created by Indigenous storytellers and features conversations with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Survivors, and the children of Survivors of residential schools.
